Past Professional Experience

The following featured projects showcase the work of Jinal Doshi prior to founding DesignEdge Structural Solutions. These projects were completed while employed at different employers in the past, where Jinal provided technical expertise and carried out design tasks on an as-required basis under the direction of the firm’s principals and Engineers of Record. DesignEdge Structural Solutions is not associated with DCI Engineers in any shape or form, nor does it contribute actively to their work. Jinal Doshi has not acted as a Structural Engineer of Record on these projects.

The Grand, Los Angeles

While employed at DCI Engineers, Jinal Doshi provided structural engineering for the lateral system and seismic evaluation of two high-rise towers—a 25-story hotel and a 42-story residential building—on a shared podium. Key tasks included creating linear and nonlinear models in ETABS and PERFORM-3D, completing design calculations for structural elements, contributing to peer review process, and addressing technical comments.

Four 106, Bellevue

While employed at DCI Engineers, Jinal Doshi focused on structural engineering efforts for the lateral design of a 21-story office tower featuring a central core as the primary seismic force-resisting system (SFRS), supplemented by buckling-restrained braces (BRBs) to address torsional demands. The building’s 3:1 aspect ratio presented unique challenges related to torsional sensitivity, requiring a strategic seismic layout.

1001 John, Seattle

While employed at DCI Engineers, Jinal Doshi worked with the project team for structural design of a 42-story residential tower utilizing a central core as the primary seismic force-resisting system (SFRS). The project featured a 55-foot grade change, which introduced complex design challenges related to lateral and foundation systems.

The Artise, Bellevue

While employed at DCI Engineers, Jinal Doshi provided technical oversight in the evaluation and selection of lateral force-resisting systems (LFRS), presenting the pros and cons of various options to support informed decision-making. Successfully implemented a hybrid system combining BRBs with viscous dampers in parallel at common connections.

Watershed, Seattle

While employed at DCI Engineers, Jinal Doshi contributed to the lateral design of Watershed, a seven-story office building in Seattle. As one of three structures participating in Seattle’s Living Building Pilot program, Watershed includes enhanced water efficiency and castellated beams to reduce steel usage.

Cedar Speedster, Seattle

While employed at DCI Engineers, Cedar Speedster was a mixed-use development featuring mass timber framing supported by a concrete transfer slab. Jinal led the post-tensioning design to manage point loads from the timber columns and oversaw lateral and seismic design.

Hospital Building in Irvine

While employed at Degenkolb Engineers, Jinal Doshi provided various solutions to the lateral and gravity design of the steel-framed hospital building and assisted in the HCAI review process.

AWS Data Center Design Engineering

While employed at Amazon Web Services, Jinal Doshi contributed to seismic performance improvements for mission-critical facilities, including SFRS optimization, structural product standardization, and review of superstructure/foundation systems for alignment with applicable standards. Jinal also pushed for the data center resiliency that aligns with the reduced downtime and accelerated post earthquake recovery.(Details provided are general and do not include confidential or proprietary information.)
